The alliance holds just long enough to imprison Maranshai and form a tenuous peace. The fierce Dormiri, the only Humen race to join with Maranshai, haven’t given up their raiding and are still hated and feared. Born of a Dormiri father and a captive slave wife, Sar is a hefmiri — a half bred. He knows little of the last war and the outside world. Because of his mixed blood, Sar is ridiculed by his clan and considered little more than a vassal, not yet a man but forced to work like one. Though he longs to fit in, he is alone, a misfit, with the blood of two races but accepted by neither. Maranshai has escaped, and once again the Dormiri will go to war.
